This particular design I liked the grips on the handle and the ergonomic shape, its rounded handle offers better comfort when shaving and the grips offer more protection against the razor slipping out of your hand.

One area of this design I would look to change would be the razor blade attachment. Not a lot of detail is provided in this particular sketch however, through sketching and CAD I would like to create a blade that is easy to attach and remove. The handle is another key area I would like to focus on. I want to get the right balance between appearance and comfort. I want to try and make the handle comfortable to hold, but at the same time add to the product, making it more aesthetically pleasing.

In this particular design I like the overall shape of the handle as it is simple yet functional. The simple handle shape along with the curved neck allows for the user to comfortably hold and use the product. Also the additional detail to the blade holder is another area I find interesting. How this can be removed through pushing the round ball as well as how the blade is attached and pivots on the pins located on the outside of the blade holder.

One area I would like to develop on this particular design would be the handle itself. Although I like the simple design / shape of it, I would like to consider adding some sort of grip to the handle to make it more comfortable and safe to hold / use. Although grips where added in the first developed design, I do not think they would provide much grip for when the user is using it.

Overall I feel that this design has changed for the better in comparison to the original design and I feel that the points stated for improvement in the previous design where met. The points stated for development where:

  1. Provide more detail in regards to the razor blade attachment. (I plan to further this later by providing more detailed drawings of this attachment).

  2.  Achieve a good balance between form and function in regards to the handle. (I feel this has been achieved but more so on the form side of things. I would like to add some sort of grip / raised surface to provide more comfort for the user when using the product adding to the function of the product).

Looking at this design I have analysed what I would like to change with the first design and added this to a new one in order to get a feel for what the developed idea would look like. In the original design I discovered that I would like to get a good balance between form and function and through the addition of the grip I feel that this has been achieved. The grip adds to the aesthetic and also has many different functional benefits in regards to the user using this product.

The grip provides more comfort for the user when using the product and also provides for a safer use as there is less chance of the product slipping whilst the user is using it.

Overall I am happy with this design and feel that I can move on and address the second area for developed noted in the first design which was the creation of a blade holder that is capable of holding the glades and allowing them to move / flex as well as be removed completely to allow for it to be replaced.

In this design I like the overall shape of the part. I feel that it is complementary to the overall design and adds to the aesthetics as well as the functionality of the product.

This part works by attaching to the handle of the product. Where the sphere is towards to end of the handle is where this part attaches. The cut towards the top / back of his part locks into the handle allowing for it to be removed when the sphere is pushed, unlocking the blade holder allowing the user to quickly replace the blades.

Next I would like to design the blades themselves. This is not a simple blade; however the housing that holds the blades and allows them to be attached to the blade holder will need to be created in order to allow them to pivot on the pins, allowing the blades to follow the contours of the users face.

This razor head attaches to the blade holder through the pins located at either side. It allows the razor head to pivot and provide a more comfortable shave for the user.

The design created offers provides the user with three blades and also a moisturising strip. The three blades combined with the motorising strip provides a more smoother / closer shave as well as reduces irritation to the users face making the product suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Next I want to fully create and finish the product through the use of CAD. This will give me a more realistic view of the product, and give me a better understanding of what features a suitable / will work and those that are not suitable and maybe will not work in regards to function or making through the use of CAD.

Using CAD will allow me to create to make changes rapidly to the product, and develop it to make a better, more functional / aesthetically pleasing product.

Here I have gathered all my ideas and drawings together and presented them in one final sketch. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of this razor design and like the various features that allow for the user to use this product comfortably.

Next I want to create this design using Solidworks (CAD) to get a more realistic version of the design and see what features will / will not work i.e. sizes, attachments etc.

Creating this design through Solidworks will also allow me to create multiple renders of the design and see a more realistic view of the product. Also the ability to make changes quickly will allow me to try different colour schemes and attachments to see what options are available.
