Initil Solidworks Design Developed

Initial design 2

After creating the initial design on Solidworks I was not so happy with it. The appearance of the handle didn’t look as good as I had imagined and it also looked a little chunky.

To address this issue I decided to keep the design but attempt to make it look less thick and see if that improved the shape / appearance.

To do this I simple re-opened the initial sketch that had the different planes and shapes. I then began to change the dimensions of these shapes in order to see what looked best. Once I had changed the dimension of a shape I would update the file and view the changes made, repeating the process until I was happy with the design.

After I had changed the shape, I then created another render of the design looking at the different views. This would give me a realistic appearance and make the decision on whether or not to make further changes easier.

Initial Design 3

After reviewing the changes made to the Solidworks design, I was unhappy with the appearance of it. I decided I would take a step back and review the overall shape of the design, focusing on creating a handle that I was happy with before progressing any further.

To do this I created a new drawing and began to create the shape using a similar method seen in initial design 1.

I created the different shapes on the different planes, looking to create a simpler, streamlined design. I then used the loft feature to create the basic shape.

After the design had been created I then went ahead and added the grips in the same manner as before using the extrude face / plane feature.

After this was finished I again created some renders of the design to allow me to decide on whether or not I like this particular design.

Overall I am very pleased with this style of handle. I do however wish to continue and develop this design further using sketching / Solidworks.
