After creating a developed design from the initial sketch through Solidworks I was pleased with the outcome, however I was not 100% happy. The overall shape and design of the handle was ok, but seemed rather unnecessary to have so many curves in the design of the handle. The handle also seemed very thick in certain areas and this is something I would like to address to see whether or not it would change the aesthetic qualities of the product and make it more appealing to look at. Not only would the changes make the product look better but it could also improve the functionality of the product making it easier to gip. These changes will be made through Solidworks as the CAD software allows me to make the changes rather quickly allowing me to see what will and won’t work.
I attempted to edit the original design; however as a result of making the changes to the handle size meant that the grips had to be removed as they were the incorrect size for the re-designed handle shape. This was not a problem at this stage as the grips could be redesigned to fit and the purpose of these changes was to see how a change to the handle shape would affect the aesthesis of the product.
As a result of this (see images below) the changing of the handle shape made the top view appear slimmer and ultimately better looking. However when looking at the side view of the product you can see how the handle appears to be thicker. I did try changing the thickness if the handle, however multiple error messages appeared as a result of the complex shape of the handle. So in order to address this issue I would like to revisit the handle design and attempt to create a design that is both pleasing to look at as well as functional and comfortable to use.
