Developing Ergonomics Through CAD

In the previous blog post I mentioned how I developed some of the handle features through CAD – this included the handles shape as well as the neck, improving the comfort of use.

In previous designs I included some sort of grip on the handle, providing the user with a safer product. However I was not pleased with how this grip appeared aesthetically.

To address this I decided that I wanted the grip to flow with the razor, not only on the top of the design but at the sides as well. This was due to the investigation into anthropometrics and ergonomics where I discovered that when holding the razor, the human hand will grip it from the side as well as the top. So by changing the design to allow the grip to extend down the side will allow the user to easily change their grip / position of the razor without fear of it slipping and causing any damage.

Below you can see the part that I created on Solidworks. This went through various processes, firstly with an initial sketch, which I was happy with, and then simply recreating this sketch using Solidworks, ensuring the dimensions where accurate so that it would fit onto the razor handle.
